NNRTV Information

The Following is secure information on the NNRTV Virus: [Lowest level of Classification]

There is a deadly disease that has striken humans throughout the galaxy. Officially called the NNRTV (Nanite Nuero Reactive Transmitter Virus), referred to as “the Reaper” by those that deal with it. To be honest, scientists haven’t confirmed how it works and are even farther from a cure. It appears to infect a human, who then transmits it to others, through long distances, matter and energy barriers, where it replicates and starts again. The most popular theory is that quarkian templates, akin to viruses, are created within the unique brain structure of humans and propulsed to others. The symptoms start with nuerological and associated behavioral anomalies. Patients show hallucinations, linguistic and observational abnormalities, and often engage in self destructive behavior, including mutilation, nihilistic thoughts, OCD and eventual clinical depression. Anatomically speaking, those infected that reach stage 4 suffer an intense release of energy that causes catostrophic damage to the skeletal and soft tissue areas of the cranium.

The following Stages are the most common progression of NNRTV Stage 1 – Nuerological and Behavior activity is erratic (one to thirty days) Stage 2 – Significant and Severe Cognitive Disorders displayed (Five to ten days) Stage 3 – Structural and soft tissue damage to Cranium, along with inability to display rational or cognitive thought. (one to five days) Stage 4 – Strong energy bursts within the cranium cause massive, non-reversable damage. (12-48 hours) Stage 5 – Imminent Brain Death. (2-5 minutes)

The “Pimkin” test will positively identify the brain of someone who has been infected and is “transmitting”. Named after famed research physicist Harold Pimpkin, it involves exposing the brain to high level quarkian X-10 mission fragments. Unfortunately, the test itself is highly lethal, causing severe brain damage. Pimpkin himself was infected as a result of testing a positive reacting subject. Testing was performed in order to determine if a planet or colony unit should be interdicted or destroyed.

Initially, it was thought that transmission was limited to carriers within a planetary or stellar system. Several hundred colonies, planets, and ships were obliterated before it was determinted that the NNRTV could transmit beyond stellar system distances. The resulting genocide was thought to be more merciful than the results of the reaper virus, although there were widespread protests to the initial actions.

Once information on the NNRTV spread, Humans were ejected or slaughtered by alien races such as the Klacks, the Hsst, the Meks, and the Hives. As settlements became weaker due to the Reaper, they were unable to withstand the alien onslaught. Better to kill all the humans than lose all sentient races, claimed the Klackons.

Meanwhile, all efforts to find a cure had failed. The disease spread from one world to another, and paranoia rose to such a level that even formerly acceptable behavior was seen as a sign of the reaper and lead to mass executions and rioting.
